45 Things to Do When You’re Single on Valentine’s Day

This will be my first time being single on Valentine’s Day since 2015.

A small part of me is bitter about it but I’m mostly kind of psyched. I don’t have to worry about buying a sentimental gift or scramble to make a last-minute reservation the day before. No effort is required on my part and I’m here for it!

That said, I do think I’ll feel sad when the actual day arrives, so I’m planning to show myself a little extra love that day. I’ve compiled this big list of ideas that I’ll pick from depending on where I’m at on February 14th.

Ranging from frugal to decadent, from diverting to diving right in, here’s a list of activities for single folks to do on Valentine’s Day:

  1. Pamper yourself with a body scrub and face mask
  2. Bundle up and stargaze
  3. Go to karaoke and belt out “Alone” by Heart
  4. Bake and share your edible creations with friends (or don’t share, that’s cool too)
  5. Treat yourself to a fancy dinner at a restaurant you’ve wanted to go to. Get dressed up for you (maybe for the insta too #singleandthriving)
  6. Pay it forward: buy a stranger a cup of coffee, leave an encouraging post-in on a co-worker’s desk, donate to a cause you care about, etc. Bask in the warm, fuzzy feelings of doing something for others
  7. Take your dog to the dog park and meet some new furry friends. Don’t have a dog? Maybe adopt one on Valentine’s Day!
  8. Watch a horror flick or a comedy (maybe not a romantic comedy though) at home or at your local movie theater
  9. Take an extra shift or work overtime at your job – make the most of your free time
  10. Listen to music that celebrates self-love
  11. Get crafty: knit, paint, collage, create something
  12. Read a book
  13. Watch some local stand-up comedy. Laughter is the best medicine, right?
  14. Take a trip to Home Goods and pick out a throw pillow or small piece of decor to spruce up your place
  15. Meditate
  16. Unfollow your exes on social media. DO IT
  17. Find a couple’s activity, like a couple’s massage, and book it for you and your bestie
  18. Go to the gym and release your rage with some kickboxing
  19. Invite a bunch of single people over and have a dinner party
  20. Pick a restaurant that typically wouldn’t be a Valentine’s date spot, like a sports bar or a fast food joint, and enjoy not being surrounded by couples
  21. Brew yourself a pot of tea (preferably decaf) and get all cozy on your couch
  22. Send your loved ones digital Valentine’s Day cards – I personally like sending RuPaul’s Drag Race memes
  23. Rewatch one of your favorite TV shows
  24. Journal about your current life situation and feelings
  25. Babysit for a couple going out and enjoy being in the presence of little kids while making some money
  26. Deep-clean your house or apartment – beat spring cleaning at its’ own game!
  27. Plan a mini-vacation and go away. A change of scenery can heal
  28. Perform a tarot reading for yourself (love related or otherwise)
  29. Get rid of that stuff your ex left at your place for good
  30. Wander around a museum until it closes
  31. Cook for your parents and create a cute date night for them to show your appreciation
  32. Take advantage of Valentine’s Day sales at the mall
  33. Wallow for a little while if you need to. Don’t ignore your feelings
  34. Buy yourself a lovely bouquet of flowers
  35. Get a haircut, dye job, or some other type of makeover and bask in how fabulous it is
  36. Fire up the diffuser with your favorite essential oils and please your olfactory sense
  37. Go to bed super early and thank yourself for that gift on February 15th
  38. Write your exes letters and then shred the letters to bits
  39. Go to therapy. Schedule an appointment on or near Valentine’s Day
  40. Take an extra long shower or bubble bath
  41. People watch in a coffee shop
  42. Unplug from social media for the day and avoid seeing sappy posts from your coupled friends
  43. Rediscover something from your childhood and enjoy the nostalgic vibes
  44. Talk on the phone or video-chat with a faraway friend who is also single
  45. Learn something new, like a language, craft, or other skill, by taking a local class or studying up online

Bottom line: If you’re single on Valentine’s Day this year, do something nice for yourself.

these are really good ideas and when i was broekn up with by my first boyf i decided to get dressed up and go to dinner with all my girlfriends and we had a great night. since then i’ve always decided to focus on non-romantic love and take cookies and flowers to windowed neighbors etc since i don’t find valentines day romantic anyways.
