I was recently hanging out with some friends when the topic of conversation turned to meditation. I shared that I generally try to meditate for a few minutes on a daily basis to ease my anxiety and chill me out. It’s a major part of my self-care routine.
They looked at me with bewilderment. They had experienced various struggles with their attempts at meditation and thought that it simply wasn’t for them. They found it difficult to quiet their thoughts, to be still, to think of absolutely nothing.
2018 was all about self-care for me.
During my quest to treat myself a bit more than I had been, I purchased several self-care products and services and had other ones gifted to me. For the past few weeks, I’ve been battling a nasty sinus infection/cold/cough. It hit me right in the middle of my parents’ visit to my new apartment over Thanksgiving and lingered through the first few days of December.
Getting sick is all around miserable (as I’m sure you know.) All I wanted to do was sleep but my dog and congestion had other ideas. I was in a grumbly mood about spending too much money on tissue boxes and cough drops and annoyed at myself for coughing through my little brother’s birthday dinner. I wasn’t getting better fast enough and that just made me more disgruntled.
After a successful solo trip to Disneyland this past summer, I have booked a five day stay at the Walt Disney World Resort at the end of February! I couldn’t be more thrilled to revisit my magical, happy place.
I’m particularly excited for this vacation because I have never done Disney World by myself. I’ve always been accompanied by family, friends, and romantic partners in the past. While it is certainly fun to experience the parks with a group, there’s something very special about doing Disney on your own. My last trip to Disneyland really showed me that. Solo travel, in general, can be super fulfilling, and it’s no different with theme parks and resorts.
Halloween is upon us! While I will be nibbling on plenty of candy and spending the evening trick or treating with my little siblings, another holiday is occupying my brain space: It’s the eve of NaNoWriMo!
National Novel Writing Month, usually shortened to NaNoWriMo, is a month-long writing marathon that commences on November 1st. It celebrates putting the pen to the paper or the fingers to the keyboard and pushes you to write and write and write with the goal of hitting 50,000 words by November 30th. It encourages living in the moment of the first draft and halting your inner editor and critic for thirty days.
